A while ago, I went to Morrissey’s Australian tour. A month or two later, Johnny Marr toured as well. And the obvious question is this: why can’t they put their egos aside and make a new Smiths album?
Come on, how hard can it be? Just get in your car Johnny, go over to Morrissey’s house and start writing songs. Don’t leave until you’ve finished album #5 which should have come out in about 1989. You’re only 26 years late.
To state the obvious, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts here. The last Moz album, ‘World Peace is None of Your Business’ was one of his worst. Marr’s ‘Play land’ is OK, but not really a classic. Would it kill you guys to think of the greater good and just make a new record together?
Unfortunately, it will never happen. Rock stars, eh.
Update for 2023 – A reunion is more unlikely than ever, due to advancing age and also political differences of opinion between our two heroes. What a shame.[bigContact form=on appointment=on phones=on emails=on hours=on map=on]
